Hey Guys!!
I hope everyone had a safe and fun Canada Day/ July 4th long weekend!! I know I did :). My fiance and I had all weekend off together, which considering the fact that he works shift work and never has the same days off, doesn't happen very often. It was really nice to not only have a weekend off together, but it was a long weekend at that!
We did lots of fun stuff, and had a great time together, but the long weekend did unfortunately have its downfalls though...namely my falling off the wagon HARD! :s See, Friday morning, we got up with my fiance's daughter, and figured we would go Uptown to take part in all of the Canada Day festivities. I don't think I was quite prepared for what I would encounter...
Everywhere I turned, I could smell all kinds of different street meats (gotta love those 2$ sausages!), endless clouds of wonderfully sugary and delicious cotton candy, and this unbelievably enticing potato tornado thing that was just to DIE for! So yet again, my sense of smell was my Achilles heel :(. You guessed it, I caved, and even though I temporarily blacked out from all the sugar/carb intake, I can vaguely remember tasting one of everything lol. To make matters worse, I finished off a bottle of wine that night...and the next night too! (Hi, my name is Mae Maillet, and I am a winoholic).
So yeah, to sum it up, although I had a great weekend, my diet kind of took a huge kick in the nuts (Sorry diet! it totally was an accident! lol)! On a better note, aside from Canada Day itself, and the numerous bottles of wine ;), I did really well the rest of the weekend, and am back on track today! I didn't weigh myself this morning because I was a little too afraid, but I will tomorrow morning for sure, and will keep you guys posted!
By the way, anyone out there have any suggestions as to how to beat those awfully delicious smells??? I still haven't been able to really figure it out (obviously lol)!
Bye Bye for now!!

The 17 Day Diet
Hey everyone, and welcome to my new blog! Just to give you a little bit of info on what's going on, my name is Mae Maillet, and I am one of the millions of people out there who is infinitely battling the bulge. i rencently lost some weight while doing a Biggest Loser contest at work (which I must say, I won!); however have since fallen off the wagon, and have gained a few pounds back :( After seeing a few friends/coworkers try and succeed with a diet and excersise plan called The 17 Day Diet, I've decided to give it a go...and document the whole thing! This diet has 4 cycles: the first three being 17 days each, and the last cycle being an ongoing one. So be prepared, because I'll be posting quite a bit over the next 8 weeks or so. I hope you enjoy, and maybe it'll help motivate and inspire some of you to join me in my weight loss journey! Cheers!!

Day 3: It's looking good so far!!
So like the title says, today is day three of my first cycle, and things are looking pretty good so far! I got up the courage this morning to step on the scale, just to see if i had lost anything yet. I'm sure most of you who are like me and have tried a slew of different diets and exercise plans in the past get a little weary at the promise of "rapid weight loss". I know I did this morning, which is why I weighed myself in pre-shower...naked of course lol (too much info?! lol). What?!? I couldn't very well run the risk of having an extra pound on because of bulky clothes :). ANYWAY, I got on the scale, took a deep breath and looked down...and i lost 3 pounds!! Can you believe it?! In just three days, I'm already down 3 pounds...now that's what I call convincing results!! :)
I'm really happy that I'm already seeing results, because that was just the boost of motivation I needed. I'm not gonna lie, I had a really hard time with it yesterday. I took my fiance's daughter out to the movie in the park at Lily Lake last night, so of course that involved lots of treats for her...but none for me :(. I had to watch oodles of kids walking around with bags of yummy, buttery, FREE popcorn, or big ol' cones of ice cream, and of course...oh so delicious hot dogs. The smells were so unbelievably intoxicating and wonderful, but the fact that I couldn't have ANY of it was literally torture. The food gods were definitely kicking me in the shins last night.
BUT, the good news is that I was still able to refrain from having any of it, and even though I left Lily Lake STARVING (ok, maybe that's a slight exaggeration lol), I got home feeling really good about myself for not giving in to my cravings. This morning's weigh in made it just that much better.
So, all in all, it's been a really successful and motivating last few days...and i only have 13 left to go in this cycle! Stay tuned for my next update!
Cheers for now!

Day 1
| {Picture from http://www.jomly.com/2011/01/17-day-diet-book-dr-mike-moreno.html} |
I don't know about you, but when I think of losing weight, and losing it fast without starving myself...I get a little excited! That's how I felt all day yesterday. I was excited when I was out grocery shopping with my fiance...I was excited when I was doing my weekly pre-cooking...and I was just as excited when i was laying in bed wide awake at 2 o'clock in the morning...not being able to fall asleep because of all the excitement lol.
Right now, I'm about halfway through my first day, and to be honest, I'm even more excited than I was yesterday. Even with all of the excitement, I was still a bit weary of this diet. You see, the reason why there are so many cycles is because you are only allowed to eat certain things. In the first cycle, the Accelerate cycle, you only eat lean proteins, fruits and vegetables, and certain probiotics and healthy fats (olive/flax seed oil). This cycle is meant to boost your metabolism, and cleanse your body of excess water and of toxins. This is the cycle where you're suppose to lose the most weight, and to lose it quickly. My biggest fear with this cycle was that I would be hungry ALL day. I'm use to eating cereal every morning, different sandwiches for lunch, and stuff like pasta, steak and potatoes, and rice for supper. Just the fact that I had to cut out ALL red meat and ALL my carby starches (yes, I just said carby starches lol), already made me feel hungry. I have to say though that I was pleasantly surprised this morning. I made myself some scrambled egg whites with some cut up red onions and green peppers, with some fresh strawberries on the side...and I couldn't even finish it! I mean, I've had a few bouts of hunger here and there, but for the most part I've managed to stay pretty satisfied!
So, Day one being almost over, i would say it has been a pretty successful one! Hopefully tomorrow will be just as good :) I'll give you an update in a few days to let you know...Bye Bye for now!!
